New Dramas About to Start

As soon as the sun comes out, the business wakes up! Just starting on a short for 104 Films through their ‘Magic Hour’ Scheme – Follow Me On My Journey To Die is a black comedy written and directed by video artist Katherine Araniello, and produced by 104′s own Justin Edgar.

Hot on the heels of that comes two one-off half hour dramas for the BSLBT (British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust) to be directed by Louis Neethling through his company Mutt and Jeff Pictures. Shooting in July across London and on the Suffolk coast for the BSLBT’s new flagship digital channel, launching soon.

It’s going to be another busy summer.

>Desire – First Feature of 2009

>Barely into the new year, and I have just wrapped on the new feature by Gareth Jones (Brass, Shalom Salaam) – Desire.

Currently in post, and scheduled for delivery in the spring/summer, the film is a love-triangle drama about an agoraphobic writer, his wife and their au pair. It stars Oscar Pearce and was produced by Fiona Howe through Scenario Films.

More details and a trailer when they become available.

>Hawkins’ Hot Legs

>Things are finally quietening down after a hectic autumn, and I can finally get back to writing a bit here.

I have just finished two promos for ex-Darkness Justin Hawkins’ new act – Hot Leg – for their singles Trojan Guitar, and a parody of the 1960s classic Fantastic Voyage for their Christmas single I’ve Met Jesus for Monkey Science/Kirkwall. Directed by Richard Mitchell, the boys are sent on a fabulous miniaturised journey through the veins of the virgin Mary to meet Jesus in the womb – complete with fantastically dated effects by the guys at Large Evil Corporation.

Once it’s out on the internet I’ll post a link – watch this space!

>Vendetta

>

One of my recent drama projects is nearing completion in post production, and some info has been released by production company Black Bull Films.

Shot a month ago on location in London, Leo De Haan’s latest short Vendetta is currently in post being cut by Nigel Galt (Eyes Wide Shut). It stars Frank Harper, Stephen Moore and Alice Henley, shot on super16mm with the fabulous new Fuji 160 Vivid stock with camera equipment from the ever-brilliant Aimimage (with thanks as ever to Mark Puffett and Mike Robinson!). It is an atmospheric thriller aimed at theatrical and festival release, and you can read a little more about it at http://www.blackbullfilms.com/drama/vendetta_Index.html

I’ll post more information as and when it arrives!

>John West & Venice

>Just back from the wonderful Page 45 in Nottingham where the fabulous Eddie Campbell and Paul Gravett were signing their work, a regular comic book spectacular.

Some great news from Catriona MacInnes – the film we shot together last year, I’m In Away From Here, has been selected for this year’s Venice Film Festival. You can read more about the film here; http://www.napiercreativeshowcase.com/2008/lens/sa.php?id=4

John West’s new Rowboat commercial that I shot with Gemma Burditt for the Onward Film Company and Cheethambell in Belfast a few months ago is currently playing on Irish commercial television, and will be landing on the mainland shortly. If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out:
